My name is Andrea Merciar and I’m a fine art printmaker by art school training (BA, PgDip, MA), and undiminished passion.
I’m originally from Liverpool, I live in London and I love visiting New York.
My artwork consists of drawings, prints and digital artworks.
Through many years of Intaglio printmaking, drawing is a big part of my work and I use a digital pen, a Wacom tablet and Photoshop to add drawing and painting elements to smaller original drawings, paintings and photographs. I draw upon the Wacom tablet surface with the digital pen/pencil/paintbrush and this allows me to add colour, tone, light and shade, texture and thousands of tiny pencil lines and paintbrush strokes to my image.
I also take photographs of landscapes, cityscapes, architecture and anything that inspires and intrigues me. I like to super-saturate the colour to see how far I can take it - I love to play around with colour, texture, light and shadow to edit and intensify the image. I also use Photoshop to add filters and textures to my photographs as I want to “intervene” in the process to create an artwork.
My artworks are printed on to paper or metal as large-scale 80 x 120cm digital inkjet prints. If printed on metal, the work hangs directly on the wall and there is no glass between the viewer and the work. If printed on paper, the work is framed in a bespoke wooden frame.
The images on this website are 1MB file-size, but my digital prints are 400MB image files - this means that every brush, pen and pencil stroke is visible, and the quality is lush and painterly. This detail is hard to see online, but it looks like this:
